GeraSure in Nigeria 2026 — NAICOM-regulated micro-insurance — health, motor, gadget, travel

Published 21 April 2026 · 9 min read

Quick answer: GeraSure is a digital insurance marketplace partnered with NAICOM-licensed Nigerian insurers. We cover motor (third-party and comprehensive), health (supplementary to HMOs), gadget, travel and SME packages. Premiums in naira, paid via Paystack, Flutterwave, Opay, Palmpay, card or bank transfer. Claims are digital-first with a human claims officer from the underwriting insurer — we do not adjudicate claims ourselves.

The Nigerian insurance opportunity

Insurance penetration in Nigeria is under 1% of GDP (NAICOM data) — one of the lowest in any major economy. Motor third-party is legally required but widely evaded. Health cover sits inside the NHIS plus private HMOs. Recent regulatory moves (Insurance Act 2024 consolidation, NAICOM's push on micro-insurance) are finally making digital distribution attractive.

Regulation

The National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) is the regulator. Every policy on GeraSure is underwritten by a NAICOM-licensed insurer (our current partners include established Nigerian underwriters we disclose on each product page). We operate as an insurance intermediary; we do not underwrite. The Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 applies to customer data.
