How to File an Insurance Claim on Your Phone in Under 5 Minutes

The biggest deterrent to insurance claims is not eligibility — it is the process. GeraSure is designed so that filing a valid claim takes less time than a phone call.

Why Claims Should Be Simple

One of the most cited reasons people do not bother claiming on their insurance is the process: phone calls, paperwork, assessors, waiting, follow-up calls, more waiting. For small claims especially, the effort often feels disproportionate to the likely payout. The result is a product that customers pay for but do not use when they need it.

Step 1: Open the App and Tap "File a Claim" (30 seconds)

From the GeraSure home screen, tap the "File a Claim" button. You will be asked to select the policy you are claiming against — if you have multiple products, they are listed by name (accident cover, device insurance, etc.). Select the relevant policy.

Step 2: Describe What Happened (60–90 seconds)

You will see a short form asking for the date of the incident, a brief description (a few sentences in your own words), and — depending on the claim type — a few specific questions. For accident claims: date of injury, hospital name, type of injury. For device claims: what happened, device model, estimated damage. The form is designed to take under 90 seconds for a standard claim.

Step 3: Upload Supporting Documents (60–90 seconds)

Most GeraSure claims require minimal documentation:

  • Accident/hospitalisation: a photo of the hospital admission document or discharge summary
  • Device damage: a photo of the damaged device
  • Income protection: hospital admission and discharge dates (from the same document)
  • Life benefit: death certificate (submitted by a nominated family member)

Photos taken with your phone camera are accepted. You do not need official scans or notarised copies for claims under defined thresholds.

Step 4: Submit and Confirm (15 seconds)

Review the details, confirm, and submit. You will receive a claim reference number immediately. This is your confirmation that the claim has been received and is being reviewed.

What Happens After You Submit

Standard claims are reviewed within 24–48 hours. You will receive a push notification and SMS when a decision is made. Approved claims are paid to your registered mobile money account or bank account within 48–72 hours of approval.

If additional information is needed — rare for standard claims — you will receive a specific request via the app with exactly what is needed and a deadline to respond.

Tips for Fast Approval

  • Take photos of documents clearly, in good light, with all text readable
  • Ensure your mobile money or bank account details are up to date in your profile before you need to claim
  • Describe the incident clearly but concisely — one paragraph is sufficient
  • Submit the claim as soon as reasonably possible after the incident — most policies have a submission window
